County lost their Boxing Day clash with local rivals Hyde FC to drop them into the Blue Square Bet relegation zone. Hyde, featuring four former Hatters players, were the better side certainly in the first half as all four, Adam Griffin, David Poole, Ryan Crowther and Luke Ashworth played their part. Griffin it was who created both of the goals that took the points back to Ewen Fields.
The visitors started the game on the front foot and scored from their second corner in the tenth minute as Ian Ormson could only punch Griffin's pinpoint corner into his own net.
Alex Kenyon and Tom Collins both had efforts saved comfortably by David Carnell before Chris Sedgwick bundled home another Griffin corner which had been flicked on at the near post by Scott Spencer.
Spencer then saw his curled effort superbly tipped over by Ormson to deny his side a three goal lead which on the balance of play they deserved.
The Hatters showed little as an attacking side, with the visitors working hard as a unit to deny any clear cut opportunities for Craig Hobson and Connor Jennings, both of whom were dropping deep to get involved.
Hyde continued to push forward at every opportunity, winning eight corners in the first half, a testament to their efforts. From the seventh Ormson and James Tunnicliffe's lack of communication almost brought another goal, the ball eventually being scrambled out for another corner.
County's best effort of the half coming with a Jennings free kick, his effort from 25 yards just clearing Carnell's crossbar.

The second half saw the visitors dropping deeper, content to hit County on the counter attack, giving County the opportunity to push forward, Hobson and Jennings looking more of a threat, Tom Collins looking lively on the right. From a neat move involving all three Carnell made his first serious save of the match at Hobson's feet.
The Hatters had much of the possession without creating any further clear cut chances, indeed Crowther created what could have been one of the best goals seen at Edgeley Park in many years when his clever switch of feet in his own half made room for him to send a raking pass out to the right wing, before racing into the box to receive the return ball, County substitute Jon Nolan denying him a certain goal.
Jennings wasted two opportunities to get his side back into the game as his poor control from Matt Mainwaring and Euan Holden passes had seen him in behind the Hyde defence, Carnell clearing up on both occasions.
