The Hatters won their third consecutive home game as second half goals from Danny Hattersley and Sean Newton moved them up to fourteenth in the Blue Square Premier table.
The visitors made the early running and were given an early opportunity as Richard O'Donnell's clearance was charged down by Vadaine Oliver, Newton able to clear the chance to save his keepers blushes.
O'Donnell was called into action minutes later as he dived full length to tip away a free kick for the visitors first corner after a foul by Alex Kenyon on the edge of his own box. Andrew Boyce beating James Tunnicliffe in the air to head wide from the resulting kick.
On 8 minutes Adam Smith played in Tom Miller who's cross evaded everyone in the box, Andy Halls clearing to safety.
Two minutes later and County should have been in front as a superb move down the left involving Matt Mainwaring, Newton and Mark Cullen found Mainwaring free in the area with time to pick his spot, the midfielder shooting wide.
Another poor clearance from O'Donnell was picked up by Colin Larkin, with the big keeper making a good blocking save to redeem himself.
A scrappy first half, with few chances came to life as the break approached. Adam Smith cut in from the left to flash a shot just wide on 43 minutes, a Newton cross was headed over the bar by Hattersley and the visitors were awarded a penalty in added time after O'Donnell was adjudged to have brought down Jones, after Jones had looked to have impeded the County stopper initially. For once lady luck was with the Hatters as Larkin blasted his spot kick wide.

County took the lead their pressure deserved as Hattersley slotted home from a flick on from Cullen after he had been found by Halls on 57 minutes.
The visitors responded with chances for Oliver, after a mistake by Jordan Fagbola whilst Alan Power's free kick sailed harmlessly wide.
Mainwaring weaved his way through several challenges before Power ended his run with a crude challenge just outside the area, the City skipper booked for his efforts. His side were punished further as Newton executed a trademark free kick into the bottom corner to put the Hatters two goals in front on 62 minutes.
Both sides created chances as the game came to a close, neat play down the left between Mainwaring and Newton saw Hattersley fire over the bar, with Tunnicliffe clearing substitute Nicolau's header for a corner. County substitute Adnan Cirak blazing well over the bar in added time.
