The Hatters picked up a well earned point at Rodney Parade in an anything but drab goalless affair, ending Newport's 100% home record in the process. Substitute Alex Meaney came close to earning his side a winner in added time, as his left foot drive struck the bar with the home keeper beaten.
With the injured Danny O'Donnell unfit to travel, skipper Joe Connor partnered James Tunnicliffe at the heart of the County defence. Jon Nolan returning to the side in the centre of midfield alongside Sam Sheridan.
County felt they were denied a clear penalty in the very first minute of the game as Andrew Hughes appeared to drag Craig Hobson down in the box from a clipped ball into the striker.
The home sides first opportunity coming as a misplaced pass from Alex Kenyon gave Newport top score Aaron O'Connor an opportunity on 3 minutes, the striker firing well wide.
The first corner of the game went to County on 9 minutes, Jon Nolan played it short to Sean Newton, who's cross shot was charged down starting a Newport attack, Sam Sheridan quickly back to clear the danger.
A spell of home pressure saw James Tunnicliffe block Michael Flynn's effort, Jefferson Louis fire wide whilst a long ball over the top beat Connor to allow Louis a snap shot which struck the foot of the post.
County reacted well with a spell of pressure of their own as Newton's cross was punched to edge of area by keeper Pidgeley, Danny Whitehead's goal bound effort being deflected for a corner. Hobson's header from Newton's ball in was saved at the foot of the post by Pidgeley, whilst the keeper tipped Sheridan's long range effort out for another County corner.
Whitehead, picking up a loose ball 35 yards from goal, fired just over bar with Pidgeley static on 29 minutes, whilst Hobson fired an effort straight at the keeper a minute later when well placed.
Louis reminded the Hatters defence of his presence as he directed a header goal wards on half hour, Ian Ormson taking the ball comfortably.
A brilliant save from Pidgeley on 34 minutes kept the home side in the game, the keeper diving full length to palm a Sheridan pile driver away for another corner to the Hatters, the keeper then saving Whitehead's header from a Sheridan cross on 39 minutes as County ended the half well.

Newport, probably with their managers half time words still ringing in their ears, earned their first corner of the match early in the second half. The kick well held by Ormson who was then impeded as he tried to release the ball quickly. O'Connor earning a booking for ungentlemanly conduct for his efforts.
Chances for both sides saw Sheridan shoot wide for County, whilst Louis headed wide for Newport from an Andy Sandell cross, Ormson claiming a deep cross from Louis under pressure from O'Connor.
Cameron Darkwah replaced Nolan, with Alex Meaney making his debut for County as he replaced Hattersley. The latest addition to the County ranks earning himself a booking for a late challenge soon after his arrival.
As the home side ramped up the pressure Ormson saved well to his left to stop a snap shot by Evans, and made his best save as a deflected free kick looked to have beaten him on 85 minutes.
Meaney almost won it for County as his quick control allowed him a snap shot in the last minute, his effort striking the bar with Pidgeley beaten.
There was still time for the home team to claim a penalty as Crow fell dramatically in the box after he and Tunnicliffe challenged for the ball, the referee waving away appeals as he had earlier.
