The Hatters were well beaten at the One Call Stadium as Adam Chapman marked his home debut with a hat trick, Paul Marshall's stunning second half effort county for nothing as the Stags ran out comfortable 4-1 winners.
County began the game well, with James Tunnicliffe and Johan Hammar dealing with early efforts from the home side before a swift counter attack earned a corner kick. Sean Newton's kick being cleared to Jon Nolan who's effort was well held by Marriott in the Stags goal.
The home side soon showed their attacking credentials as a long range effort from Meikle was tipped over by Richard O'Donnell, with Stevenson heading wide from a Chapman long throw.
A decent counter attack from the Hatters came to nothing and as Nolan lost possession in the middle of the park they were made to pay for both as Chapman opened the scoring on his home debut.
The midfielder, on loan from Oxford United, followed up to knock home the loose ball after O'Donnell had made a good save to deny Green.
It was soon two to Town and Chapman as he again followed up a loose ball in the box after the County defence had failed to clear their lines from a free kick near the half way line.
County were struggling to make an impact on the game, a fact not helped by poor ownership of the ball. Mark Cullen coming closest with a near post header from a cross in from Adnan Cirak.
In an effort to freshen up his side Darije Kalezic made an early substitution bringing on Paul Marshall for Matt Mainwaring just before the half hour. A Newton header, which was saved comfortably by Marriott, being the only effort of note before half time.
The home side probably should have added a third before the break with O'Donnell producing a point blank save to deny Daniel after poor defending by Hammar allowed him a free shot in 6 yard box.

Jon Macken replaced the ineffective Cirak for the start of the second half and the veteran striker was soon in the action, heading clear from a Stags corner in the opening minute.
Danny Whitehead missed a great opportunity to bring his side back into the game, shooting wide after Macken had brilliantly found him free in the box. The young striker then missing another chance Tunnicliffe had flicked on Newton's throw in, shooting tamely at Marriott on 54 minutes.
Three minutes later and it was game over as once again Nolan gave away possession in the middle of the park, Green picking up a pass to slot passed O'Donnell to put his side 3-0 up. Jordan Fagbola replacing Hammar almost immediately.
O'Donnell denied Green a second goal with yet another superb save before Marshall gave his team some hope with a breathtaking strike from 35 yards.
The midfielder picking up a neat pass from Whitehead before shooting home.
The blue & white army behind the goal were still celebrating when Chapman completed his hat trick with a similar goal of his own, curling into the top corner from the edge of the box to quash any chance of a revival.
