A cruel 90th minute goal from Lloyd Ellams won the game for Vauxhall Motors and with it so ended Alan Lord's unbeaten run as County manager. Phil Jevons had given the Hatters the lead as early as the 8th minute following a flowing move that featured Kyle Jacobs, the recalled Jamie Hand and Danny Gosset, Jevons curling a delightful effort into the top left hand corner. The home side levelling before the break through Matt Williams on the half hour.
Illness and injury had forced Lordy to make several changes, bringing in Hand and Craney back into the squad for the first time since he took over, Adriano Moke and Hand starting the game. Tunji Moses, Aman Verma and keeper Ryan Jones all missing the trip.
The Hatters made a good start to the game and after Jevons had given them the lead they looked set to take control only for the home side to work their way back into the match. Former County youngster Matty Kosylo had wasted a great opportunity before Williams slotted home from a neat ball in from full back Stephen Wainwright.
County began the second half in good form, Kristian Dennis' effort in the first minute almost giving them the lead again with Jevons missing a sitter a few moments later. Again the home side worked their way back into the half but the game appeared to be set for a draw until that late goal gave the Motors all three points to leave the majority of the crowd disappointed.
