County grabbed their first Boxing day win since 2006 and continued the Christmas cheer at Edgeley Park as they convincingly beat Bradford Park Avenue 4-1.
County took the lead with an early goal inside three minutes. The lively Rhys turner was looking for support when Kyle Jacobs came to his aid and laid the ball into the feet of Liam Dickinson who slotted the ball into the back of the net for his first goal since re-joining County.
Bradford Park Avenue wasted a good opportunity to equalise when they found themselves one on one against Ormson who made his presence felt and forced Avenue to slide the ball wide of the post.
Rhys Turner then made it two for County on the 17th minute after Nicky Platt played an intelligent reverse pass into the path of Turner who keeps his composure in front of goal to confidently chip the ball over the Bradford Park Avenue keeper.
As County continued to pile the pressure on Bradford Park Avenue Lamb pulled off a brilliant double save in goal. First, he denied Rhys Turner his second of the game before scrambling back to prevent the ball from going over the line from Iain Howard’s follow up shot.
Bradford Park Avenue made County pay for not cashing in on their opportunities when the visitors pulled a goal back just before the end of the first half. A long ball allowed Marshall to fire a left foot shot which was saved well by Ormson but Paul Beesley followed up on the rebound and converted in front of the Cheadle End.
After the break Howard edged County further in front with his third goal in two games. The Hatters broke away after some neat play to find themselves bearing down on a vulnerable Bradford Park Avenue defence. Howard playing a one two with Turner inside the box to then power a shot towards goal which deflected off an Avenue defender into the bottom left corner.
County didn’t ease off the pressure and were given the opportunity to increase the deficit when they were awarded a penalty on the 56th minute for a handball decision against The Avenue. County Captain, Phil Jevons stepped up to take the penalty and assertively put County 4-1 up as he placed the ball into the bottom left corner sending Avenue keeper John Lamb the wrong way.
The Hatters were now in full stride and could have increased their lead following a tidy interchange of passes between Rhys Turner, Dickinson and Jevons which freed Turner in space enabling him to get a shot off towards goal but Avenue manage to get a body in front of the ball to deflect away.
Continuing with the domination Platt played the ball into Howard’s feet on the edge of the box who turned his marker and drove a low shot towards goal but Bradford Park Avenue keeper Lamb did well to get down and hold the ball preventing Howard from pinching his second of the game.
