A 2-0 victory over Stalybridge Celtic at Edgeley Park this afternoon means that County have extended their good run of form to just one defeat in nine matches.
County started the game well as the ball broke for Dennis in the clear 25 yards out, too a few good touches then drove the ball underneath the out rushing keeper putting County 1-0 up after just 8 minutes.
It wasn’t long before Scott Duxbury doubled County’s lead on the 17th minute with a fantastic goal. Platt played the ball out to Duxbury on the left flank just outside the penalty area and from a tight angle Duxbury floated the ball over the Celtic keeper grabbing his second goal for the club.
Celtic responded to County’s pressure and came close to narrowing the gap on County’s lead on the 20th minute when Kristian Platt fired a freekick just over Kristian Dibble’s cross bar from 30 yards out.
On the stroke of half time Stalybridge Celtic looked to have earned a goal back, as Josh Green’s strike was spilled by Kristian Dibble to the feet of Abadaki who pounces on the ball and sent it into the goal but the offside flag came to County’s rescue and the goal was ruled offside.
Celtic continued their search for a goal and in the 56th minute Scott Duxbury denied Abadaki with a goal saving tackle to prevent the striker from placing the ball into an open net following good build up play from Stalybridge. Following a heated start to the second half former County player and Celtic top scorer Sean McConville received his second yellow card of the game following a late challenge on Phil Jevons and was given his marching orders by the referee.
From then on the second half didn’t offer much to talk about with blustering conditions making it difficult to play neat football, but on the 77th minute following some nice link up play, Dickinson played Jacobs through on the right wing driving in a low cross but it was just too fierce for County to convert goal bound. Two minutes later Dickinson beat his man on the right played in a low ball towards the 6 yard box, Rhys Oates reached for it at full stretch but couldn’t get enough on it to get County’s third.
