It was a frustrating afternoon for County as they were unable to capitalise on chances created which cost them a game in which they created more than their opponents. Hednesford grabbed the only goal to run out 1-0 winners.
The visitors broke the deadlock on the 12th minute as Marvin Johnson picked up the ball on the half way line, broke at pace to reach the byline before squaring the ball across the box for Anagho-Ntamark to stroke the ball into the net giving the Pitmen the advantage.
County responded positively to the goal and came close to an equaliser just two minutes later as Kristian Dennis chipped the ball into Iain Howard’s feet inside the box but a lack of support meant the chance went begging.
As County continued their search for an equaliser, Howard produced a looping goal bound header from a Milligan corner but the Hednesford defence rushed to clear the ball to safety.
The first half was a frustrating one for County who had most of the possession and more chances, yet they went into the break 1-0 down.
County continued the pressure in search of an equaliser in the early stages of the second half. Following a neat interchange of passes in midfield, the ball fell to the feet of Howard who fired the ball agonisingly wide for the Hatters.
Hednesford didn’t pose much of a threat at the start of the second half, with County retaining most of the possession yet unable to create clear cut chances. Rhys Oates was introduced on the hour mark in place of Nicky Platt to add more of an attacking dimension for the home side as Lord pushed his team for an equaliser.
Ormson pulled off a spectacular save from a Hednesford header from point blank range to prevent the Pitmen from doubling their lead.
To add to County’s frustrations a late penalty claim was denied as Rhys Oates pounced on a loose ball inside the box before being taken down from behind but fairly according to the referee, Michael Salisbury. It was the last of the chances and confirmed County’s defeat as their nine game unbeaten run at home ended.
