County and Brackley draw blank

County failed to capitalise on a one man advantage for an hour as they once again played out a goal-less draw. Whilst the result extends County's winless run, they rarely looked in danger and again produced a solid display which gave them the point needed to mathematically ensure they won't be dragged into a late, if unlikely, relegation scrap.

The main talking point if the game came on 40 minutes when Howard and Langdon tangled as the County winger chased down a long pass and as the two crashed to the floor Kristian Dennis was incensed by something he saw. The linesman had the best view of the officials and after a lengthy consultation with the referee Langdon was shown a straight red card.

This had followed a promising opening spell for County with Moke and Howard providing a threat out wide with their pace. On 13 minutes a useful interchange between Howard and Duxbury on the left saw the full back's shot blocked away for a corner. Earlier Jamie Milligan had bent a free kick just wide of the post.

The game settled into a predictable pattern after the sending off with Brackley happy to drop deep and let County have the ball in front of them. As usual Jevons and Milligan were tidy on the ball and looked the most likely to find a way to unlock the well drilled defence.

On 55 minutes a Jevons free kick looked destined for the top corner but was tipped over the cross bar.

Brackley threatened sporadically on the break and on 69 minutes County were grateful to Tunji Moses for good covering work as he smothered a dangerous cross into the six yard area.

There was the worrying sight for County fans on 75 mins as Kyle Jacobs departed after visibly struggling in the second half to be replaced by Nicky Platt. Further changes followed as Sanchez Payne was given his debut in place of Adriano Moke and Bobby Lofthouse came on for Iain Howard late on. However, as much as County huffed and puffed in the end they looked short of the cutting edge needed to carve out the goalscoring chances needed to earn the 3 points.
