The Hatters earned a place in the next round of the FA Cup thanks to a superb 30 yard thunderbolt from Kyle Jacobs midway through the second half. In truth it was the visitors that looked the more likely to see their name in the draw but some poor finishing undid the neat approach play they had displayed for the much of the game.
Full back Ben Thornton missed their first big chance on the quarter hour, firing wide after good build up play and a neat pass from Danny Naidole. Joe Mitchell wasted the next opportunity, again firing wide before Ernest Boafo headed Bobby Lofthouse's corner off his own line as County finally had an effort on goal. Boafo turned from hero to villain as he somehow shot over the bar from inside the 6 yard box after Ryan Hall had capitalised on a Jordan Fagbola mistake to set him up.
County survived a penalty scare early in the second half as Scott Duxbury challenged Thornton in the box, with Ryan Hall heading over shortly afterwards. Jacobs then changed the course of the game as he picked up on a loose clearance before striding forward to slam his shot passed Jacob Giles. The Hatters were rarely troubled after the goal, and with the visitors running out of steam Giles tipped over from Phil Jevons, Brandon Windsor and Jacobs again.
In a frantic last minute, with Giles sent up for a corner, Nick Jagger's acrobatic effort, and Thornton, who saw his shot blocked on the line, almost grabbed the replay that even the most fervent of County fans wouldn't have denied them.
