Ten men County overcame Vauxhall Motors with ease to make it just one defeat in eight games for The Hatters.
Alan Lord’s men started the game as they meant to go on, piling pressure on the Motormen from the off. Kristian Dennis had a chance to open the scoring for County early on following a driven cross from Scott Duxbury into Dennis’ feet just outside the 6 yard box but fails to convert firing the ball into the side netting.
After a number of chances County finally got their first goal of the match on the 23rd minute following a whipped cross from Howard on the left flank finding Jevons who beat the offside trap and unselfishly played the ball square to Dennis who made no mistake in slotting the ball home.
County ended the first half in complete domination of the game with Vauxhall Motors unable to keep up with the tempo having not meaningfully tested County debutant Dibble in net at all.
County started the second half as they finished the first, showing no mercy to Motors. A neat passing interchange eventually found Iain Howard who doubled County’s lead on the 48th minute.
The Motormen nearly got a goal back following a corner when a glancing header beat Dibble but Nicky Platt came to County’s rescue with a goal saving header off the line. County responded a minute later as
Scott Duxbury out-muscled a defender to play in Kristian Dennis who sent the keeper the wrong way grabbing his second goal of the game.
County got their fourth goal of the match as an in-swinging corner was spilled out to Churchman who found Lofthouse who’s floating ball into Jevons again beat the offside trap and with plenty of composure he sent the ball into the back of the net for his fourteenth goal of the season.
The Motormen earned a controversial penalty resulting in the sending off of Jordan Fagbola for the second home game running, as the ball was blasted at the defender who was unable to move his arm away quick enough to prevent the ball from striking it. Ellams placed the penalty past Christian Dibble in what turned out to be merely a consolation goal against the run of play.
