Stockport County are delighted to announce that midfielder Alex Meaney is set to sign*.
Meaney, who has featured in many of the Hatters pre-season games and notched up a hat-trick in last week's Development Squad win at Ilkeston, is a product of the Myerscough College Football Academy.
Last season Alex was voted the Player of the Tournament at the prestigious Caput Mundi Roma Under 19’s Football tournament held in Ostia, Rome.
He captained the England Colleges Football Association team (ECFA) at the Caput Mundi Roma tournament and received two Man-of-the-Match awards in only three matches whilst representing his country.
The Caput Mundi Roma Tournament sees the best players from across Europe represent their countries at Under-19 level. At the end of the week long tournament Meaney was selected from 144 of the most talented young footballers from across Europe, as the Player of the Tournament by the tournament committee.
Meaney is the latest of a line of players to have come to Edgeley Park having played for Myerscough, a list that includes Anthony Pilkington and current stars Craig Hobson, Danny Hattersley and Alex Kenyon.
In addition, Lewis King has signed a short-term deal with the Hatters.
The Derby-born goalkeeper first joined County last March on loan from Sunderland, keeping a clean sheet on his debut in our 4-0 win over Bath. Lewis left the Mackems over the summer and, looking to keep his fitness up during his search for a new club, signed on at Edgeley Park on non-contract terms to provide competition for Ian Ormson and has now signed a short-term deal, keeping him in Edgeley until at least January.
