Former Hatter passes away

Stockport County regret to announce that former Hatter Paul Ware has sadly passed away.

Ware had been in remission following treatment for a brain tumour but was taken ill again recently before passing away last night.

Congleton-born Ware joined the Hatters in the summer of 1995, having played against the club for his first club Stoke City in the Autoglass Trophy Final at Wembley three years earlier. The classy midfielder spent three seasons at Edgeley Park, and many will remember his stunning volley against Carlisle in March 1996 which eventually won Goal of the Season. Paul was part of the side in the first half of the 1996/97 season before moving to Cardiff on loan, and also spent spells at Macclesfield and Rochdale.

Our condolences go to Paul's friends and family.
