100 Club Spotlight: U. of Derby Buxton

Posted on: Fri 01 Oct 2010

Buxton College of Further Education is part of the University of Derby, a unique feature that means its students have access to the same excellent facilities and learning experiences as higher education students - and they can choose to stay on at the Buxton Campus to study for a university degree.

The magnificent Devonshire Dome will be the setting to their College experience. Re-opened in 2006 after a £23m restoration project, the Dome now houses top class facilities that provide an unrivalled teaching and learning experience; including a café, fine dining restaurant and seven industry standard kitchens used to train culinary arts and hospitality students, the Devonshire Spa where spa students are trained, and salons where hairdressing and beauty students get real life experience.

Buxton College students benefit from being on a small, friendly campus where they will quickly get to know other students and academic and support staff.

In a recent survey, 95% of students said that their tutors provide good guidance and support.

And, 93% of students said that they felt that tutors made their subject interesting, a result which isn't surprising when you consider that the College's teaching staff have years of work experience in their subject areas, and work hard to share this knowledge and experience with students.
