NATIONAL SCHOOL MEALS WEEK 2009

Posted on: Wed 18 Nov 2009
Stockport County and School Meals staff from Solutions SK Ltd, Stockport Council's wholly-owned company, helped promote healthy eating during the recent National School Meals Week (NSMW).

NSMW week, which ran from Monday, November 9 to Friday, November 13, gave schools the opportunity to showcase their own school meals, while celebrating the hard work and dedication put into the service by their professionally trained catering staff.

A variety of events and activities were held in schools throughout Stockport which was launched with a performance from local band The Harks at Marple Hall School.

As part of NSMW, Solutions SK teamed up with Stockport County, to offer primary and secondary pupils the chance to welcome some of Gary Ablett's squad into their school.

Children were asked to answer questions on healthy eating and Stockport County. The winners of the competition - Jade Molloy from Fairway Primary and Connor Jackson from Werneth High School - enjoyed a visit from County players last week.

In the primary school, Jade's classmates took part in games organised by our Community Foundation Coach Mike Smith and Hatters' stars Carl Baker, Adam Griffin and Paul Turnbull.

At Werneth, Matty Mainwaring, David Poole and Gianluca Havern organised a 5-a-side match between ten selected children, which included warming up and down exercises plus a question and answer session.

County's Commercial Sales manager, Simon King, said, "Stockport County were delighted to be given the opportunity to work with Solutions SK in promoting the Get Active Day during the National Schools Meal week.

"The players and staff had a fantastic day educating the prize-winning schools on the value of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This is another example of the excellent relationship County and Solutions SK have, and the difference that can make in the community."

Solutions SK provide school meals in over 100 primary schools and eight secondary schools in Stockport. All meals are nutritionally analysed to meet Government standards and provide pupils with a healthy and well balanced meals.
