One Stockport resident dies every day from a smoking-related illness. Nearly all of these people will have started smoking in their teens.
Helen Jackson from Stockport's Stop Smoking Service, said: "No Smoking Day is a fantastic opportunity for smokers to kick the habit. There is plenty of support locally for those who want to give up. We want as many people as possible to give up and feel No Smoking Day is the time to go for it."
Mike Smith from the Stockport County Community Foundation, added: "Stockport County is thrilled to be backing No Smoking Day. We're looking forward to helping Stockport Stop Smoking Service getting smokers to ditch the fags."
Smokers are four times more likely to quit using an NHS Stop Smoking Service. To find out more about the support available for smokers of any age contact Stockport Stop Smoking Service call 0161 426 5085, email
