COUNTY 2 BURY 0

Posted on: Wed 25 Mar 2009

Alan Lord was forced to make a change from his chosen starting eleven when Gary Dicker pulled out with a back strain. Paul Ennis moved into central midfield with Danny Rowe coming off the bench to play down the left.

The Hatters had a let off after ten minutes when Domaine Rouse hit a 20-yarder that flew past Jason Astbury in the County goal and bounced to safety off the cross bar.

The young Hatters took the lead on 18 minutes with a goal brilliantly created by Rowe. The winger left three defenders in his wake before hitting an angled drive that bounced off the inside of the post to Darren Green who had a simple tap-in.

Five minutes later Astbury came to County's rescue when he dived to his right to turn Danny Racchi's low shot from outside the box around the post

Paul Turnbull limped out of the game soon after when he was on the receiving end of a late challenge from Josh Rothwell that earned the Shakers' midfielder a yellow card; Craig Roberts came off the bench to replace him.

Astbury was again called into action just before the break when he dived to his left to turn Ritchie Barker's low drive around the post.

Neil Holmes came off the bench during the interval to replace Rick Ratcliffe.

The Shakers came within a coat of paint of an equaliser after 50 minutes when Jack Dorney beat Astbury but the ball bounced off the inside of the post with no one on hand to turn in the rebound.

Pilkington relieved the pressure with a 50 yard run that ended with him forcing a corner.

Lord made his third substitution after 63 minutes when Louis Barnes replaced Rowe.

Bury came close again on 69 minutes through Luke McArthy.

Then Kevin Fields saw a hot deflected wide six minutes later.

County wrapped the game up eight minutes from time with a goal of real quality. Green and Holmes combined to release Pilkington down the right. The midfielder raced clear before firing brilliantly inside Cameron Belford's right-hand post.

And Green almost mad it 3-0 with a long-range effort that the back peddling Belford caught just under the bar.
