LADIES UPDATE 12/10

Posted on: Mon 12 Oct 2009
Seniors
Stockport County Ladies played host to Wakefield at Woodley Sports on Sunday and although Kate Halle netted after only seven minutes, their opponents struck an equaliser midway through the half against the run of play. County had keeper, Laura Bowater to thank for a number of fine saves after the break until Chloe Spencer came to the rescue and grabbed County's match winner in the 87th minute.

Five turned out to be the Reserves lucky number as they maintained their 100% record to make it five League wins in a row with a comfortable 5-0 win over Springhead Ladies, with goals from five different players including Player of the Match, Paige Clarke. Grace Campbell, Cheryl Burns, Kim Seddon and Jeneyah Webb were the other goalscorers.

Adele Hollingsworth scored the equaliser for HNR away to Riveacre but three more goals left HNR with a mountain to climb at half-time. Jayne Benns and Kelly Allwood managed to reduce the deficit in the second half but another equaliser proved elusive as HNR went down 4-3 to suffer their first league defeat of the season.

In a complete contrast to HNR, Blues were leading Great Sutton 2-0 at half-time, thanks to goals from Rachael Evans and Vicky Brown. The 2nd half saw Great Sutton score 4 without reply to take all 3 points and move above Blues on goal-difference.

Juniors
County Under-13s continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 7-1 win against Unicorn Athletic, Bethany Clark and Lydia Henshall both netted a brace each, Bethany Marsh, Chloe Ankers and Player of the Match, Kayleigh Seddon all contributed with a goal apiece.

The Under-12s secured another good win to progress to the League Cup Quarter Finals, with a 9-0 defeat of Urmston Meds. Player of the Match, Megan Watson struck four, Lauren Blakey, Chloe Flanagan, Minnie Kenworthy, Grace Byrne and an own goal completed the scoring.

For the second time in three matches, the Under-11s faced a strong Man City side, this time in the cup; the holders progressing to the next round with a 5-0 win. Despite this defeat, County put in an improved performance and keeper, Rebekah Sadgrove was awarded Player of the Match for the third match in a row!

The new Under-11s DMS team (see photo, courtesy of Gary Gomersall), played their first match of the season away to Ashton-on-Mersey and recorded a terrific 6-1 win. Captain, and Player of the Match, Grace Wardle, led the way with four goals with Megan Shandley and Abigail Kinsey also finding the net.

Juniors' training takes place from 6pm each Wednesday at Werneth Recreation Centre, Harrytown, Romiley. Please contact Audrey on 0161 612-5005 for further details or visit our website: www.stockportcountyladiesfc.co.uk
