Stockport County Ladies match at home to South Durham Royals was the only senior fixture to survive the weather, thanks to the Fifa-approved, 3G surface at Woodley Sports FC. County, 3rd in the table at the start of the day were looking to close the gap on their opponents who were sitting in 2nd place, and South Durham were out for revenge having lost to County, 1-0 on the opening day of the season. The 1st half was a dour affair, not helped by a swirling cross-wind and both sides had difficulty in carving out any real chances, South Durham had the better of the opening exchanges though and County keeper Laura Bowater was called upon to make two first-class saves in the opening 15 minutes. The 2nd half saw a midfield battle and again, few chances were created and the closest County came was from a Chloe Spencer free-kick from the edge of the penalty area, both sides finally ran out of steam and 0-0 was the inevitable result.
Next Sunday (8th November), County are at home to Bradford City Ladies in the 1st Round of the FA Women's Cup competition. Kick-off 2pm at Woodley Sports FC, Lambeth Grove, Woodley. The café and bar will be open and it's FREE admission!
County's U16s enjoyed an 8-2 success over local rivals Hillgate Blues in the 1st group match of the league cup competition. Tiree Vallance struck her 1st of the season to open the scoring, thanks to County's player of the match Clare Lee, who danced her way past four defenders to set up the opportunity,
Alex Wilson grabbed a brace as did Cory Fritz and Libby Nolan netted a hat-trick.
After last week's 2-1 success over Bolton Wanderers, the U15s continued their good form with a 3-2 win over last season's league champions, Barr Hill. With the score at 0-0 and the half-time break less than 5 minutes away, Barr Hill took the lead on 35 minutes, Jodie Moir and Kirsty Cooper struck to give County the lead only for their opponents to equalise in stoppage time. Both sides created numerous chances in the 2nd half as the match was played end to end but it was Laura Dunn who had the final word, as she managed to get on the end of a corner from County's player of the match, Phoebe Neild to give County all three points.
The U13s unbeaten run continued with a 7-0 win over Oldham Athletic to keep them 2nd place in the table and the U11s enjoyed a 13-0 win over Ashton-on-Mersey. Despite a player of the match performance from keeper, Chyna Ellison, County U11s (DMS) lost out to Urmston, 6-0.
Generous shoppers at Tesco last Sunday helped County's juniors raise over £500 towards club funds as they offered to help shoppers to pack their bags. On behalf of Stockport County Ladies FC, we wish to express our appreciation to those shoppers who donated, to Tesco for allowing us this opportunity and, of course, to all the young players who gave up their time to help raise much-needed funds for their teams.
