Ladies Update 09/12

Posted on: Thu 22 Jul 2010

Stockport County Ladies entertained Keynsham Town Ladies in a friendly as their League match with Blackpool Wrens was postponed due to their opposition's involvement in the Lancashire County Cup.

It was pleasing to note that the performance of the match officials, led by a certain Mr Robert Clare was faultless, which is a shame that this couldn't be said of County as a below-par performance saw the visitors notch up a comfortable 7-0 win!

County Ladies Reserves travelled to Hough End looking forward to their first football since the end of October, following a series of postponements. Manchester Rovers provided the opposition.

The Hatters started really brightly, taking the lead inside the first minute with a goal from Jess Finch. This great start continued, with County racing into a 4-0 lead with just 15 minutes one the clock. Neya Webb, Lisa Mitchell and Cheryl Burns scoring the goals that ensured County grabbed full control of the game.

Paige Clarke netted the fifth goal on 29 minutes; Neya then produced a great strike from 20 yards out to score her second, County's sixth, on 36 minutes. Cheryl Burns added a seventh for the Hatters just four minutes later. Although Rovers pulled one back soon after the Hatters led 7-1 at the break.

The second half saw County make changes and this coincided with an improved Rovers performance.

The Ladies added two more goals starting with Kim Seddon on 59 minutes. Lisa saved the best until last, exchanging passes with Kim outside the area, before driving on and firing a shot into the top corner.

Rovers drew one great save out of Jade Thornborough, as she turned an excellent shot round the post when a goal looked certain. Jade Wilson stood out for County during the second half, with an excellent display of calm and clever defending.

Juniors
The Under-13s battled back from 3-1 behind at half-time to beat ROCS 4-3. Two goals each from Kayleigh Seddon and Lydia Henshall and a superb display from player of the match Beth Marsh maintained their position at the top of the table.

The Under-12s inflicted upon Hough End their first league defeat of the season to stay in second place, just a point off the top, thanks to goals from Minnie Kenworthy and Chloe Flanagan and a player of the match display in goal from keeper, Scarlett Harrison.

Both Under-11s teams lost out by a one-goal margin; County U11s DMS losing 3-2 to Poynton; player of the match Megan Shandley grabbed both County goals. County U11s lost 1-0 to Hillgate Blues, player of the match was Natalie Watson.
