Ladies' derby day cup win

Posted on: Thu 22 Jul 2010
SENIORS
At the fourth attempt, County's local derby against Macclesfield Town Ladies in the Cheshire FA Ladies Challenge Cup tie finally saw some action!

County started off brightly and immediately put their opponents on the back-foot using the pace of Katie Sweeney and Nikki Daniels to great effect. The Hatters opened the scoring on 14 minutes and increased their lead on 22 minutes, both strikes from Katie Sweeney.

Vicky McConnell grabbed a third in the 39th minute to put County firmly in the driving seat and, within five minutes of the restart, Nikki Daniels finally got her name on the score sheet with a fine individual effort.

Macclesfield never gave up, though, and managed to pull a goal back on the hour with a superb lob giving keeper, Laura Bowater, no chance. Kayleigh Rowe-Catterall replaced Katie Sweeney on 66 minutes and within two minutes forced the ball home on the goal-line following a cross from Vicky McConnell for number five.

Within ten minutes, thanks largely to the quality passing on show from player of the match, new signing Irene Isaakson, Rachel Williams and Chloe Spencer added goals numbers six and seven.

As Macclesfield visibly tired, and following an injury to their keeper leaving them with only 10 players on the pitch, Kayleigh Rowe-Catterall added two more to secure her hat-trick and defender, Kerisia Cooke with a superb strike from 20 yards for her first of the season ensured a resounding victory, 10-1.

County now face an away trip to Warrington Town in the quarter-finals.

The Reserves made sure of a resounding double over their local rivals by beating Macclesfield's reserves, 13-0 in the Cheshire & Manchester WFL League Cup, Jeneyah Webb (5), Sophie Williams (2) Cheryl Burns (2), player of the match Jess Finch, Lisa Mitchell and Kayleigh Traynor with her first of the season, grabbed the goals.

Blues suffered another defeat, losing 6-0 to Great Sutton in the League Cup. Player of the match was defender, Roxanne Brown.

JUNIORS
The Under-15s were shell-shocked after a 6-0 defeat to Bolton Wanderers despite enjoying much of the possession in an entertaining encounter and having beaten Wanderers 2-1 earlier in the season. Player of the match was County's captain, Hannah Keegan.

The Under-13s narrowed the gap on leaders Denton to a point with a 5-1 defeat of Heyside Angels Clarets, player of the match Lydia Henshall took her season's tally to 18 with a hat-trick, Beth Marsh and Kayleigh Seddon getting a goal apiece.

The Under-12s did the double over Oswald Road and scored four without reply to ensure that they go two points clear at the top of the table, Lauren Blakey and Megan Watson each grabbed a brace and player of the match, Lucy Kilheeney was unlucky not to hit the target with a 20-yard strike.

The Under-11s DMS progressed to the semi-finals of the Cup with a fine 6-0 defeat of Unicorn Athletic. Paige Tomlinson proved to be a real handful and netted five, player of the match, Megan Banks also grabbed a goal.

Sadly for County Under-11s, they exited the cup at the hands of Altrincham 1-3, player of the match, Aimee Clouston scoring County's consolation goal.
