Super Cheshire success for Ladies

LADIES SUPER CHESHIRE SUCCESS
The Cheshire FA Ladies Challenge Cup returned to Stockport after County Ladies defeated Chester City 2-0 last Sunday afternoon.

Kayleigh Rowe-Catterall with a headed goal on 34 minutes gave County a deserved lead at half-time but, in a scrappy second half, with County looking nervy and Chester increasing in confidence, keeper and player of the match, Laura Bowater pulled off a succession of superb saves to keep the Hatters in front. As the game entered injury time, a free-kick was awarded to County, some 25 yards out on the wing, Chloe Spencer stepped up and launched an unstoppable strike high into the top corner giving the Chester keeper no chance and making sure the Ladies returned home with the trophy for the first time since beating Macclesfield in 2007 - photo courtesy of Gary Gomersall

County's Reserves secured a League Cup Final appearance on May 16 against either Fletcher Moss Rangers or Wythenshawe Amateurs following a 7-2 win over Springhead. An 8-0 midweek win over Oldham Vixens means that the Division 2 (East) title could be decided when County face second-placed Fletchers Moss Rangers on Thursday (22nd). County have a two-point advantage at the top and a far superior goal difference - a draw would guarantee promotion as champions!

Blues all but sealed their fate with a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Division 1 champions-elect, Northwich Vixens. They now need to win all their remaining five matches and hope that other results go in their favour to avoid relegation. HNR moved above Riveacre into 7th spot with a 3-0 win over Oldham Athletic to ease their relegation worries thanks to goals from Donna Haynes, Adele Hollingsworth and Amy Holland.

JUNIORS
A win over Wythenshawe Amateurs midweek keeps the Under-16s hopes of retaining their title alive thanks to four goals from Clare Lee, a brace from Libbi Nolan and one from Sophie Thompson. Aimee Astbury was player of the match. At the weekend, despite creating numerous gaol-scoring opportunities, the match with Poynton ended in a goal-less stalemate. Hannah Keegan was player of the match.

The Under-15s and Under-13s had a free weekend, and the Under-12s probably wish they did too after suffering a surprise 3-1 defeat at the hands of Gorse Hill. With two games to play, they sit in second place, two points above Delamere, who they play on the last day of the season (May 1).

The Under-11s made it five wins in a row with a 3-0 defeat of Hazel Grove, player of the match Aimee Clouston, Natalie Watson and Leahanna Jones grabbed a goal each. It was two draws in a week for Under-11s DMS; a Paige Tomlinson goal gave them a point against Hazel Grove United in midweek and earned her the player of the match award for her performance, then another strike from Paige and one from player of the match Chyna Ellison earned a point against Hillgate Blues at the weekend.
