LADIES UPDATE
The first team's away match to Blackpool Wren Rovers was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. However, the Reserves, Blues and HNR were all in action in their first League matches of the season
The Reserves had already notched up 13 goals in two pre-season friendlies but they surpassed themselves with a 20-1 mauling away to an Oldham Vixens side who were relegated from the top flight at the end of last season. Jeneyah Webb's tally was an amazing 11, Cheryl Burns almost grabbed a double-hat-trick but had to settle with five. Emily Maher and Aimee Berrisford (2) - on their debuts - and Hannah Kibble were the other scorers.
HNR also had a good opening day, beating a below-par Vauxhall Ladies, 7-1.Karen Weeden grabbed four, Adele Hollingsworth (2) and Amy Tinsley were the other scorers.
The image, courtesy of Gary Gomersall, shows Karen scoring her second goal.
Blues had a number of key players missing due to injury and holidays and were soundly beaten by Manchester University, 6-0.
The opening day of the Juniors season was put back by the South Manchester Girls Football League to next weekend (Sep 12) due to technical difficulties experienced in the registration of players and clubs.
