LADIES BACK IN LEAGUE ACTION

Posted on: Wed 10 Mar 2010
SENIORS
Stockport County Ladies returned to league action for the first time since November, and continued their unbeaten run with an away victory over Scunthorpe United Ladies. Nikki Daniels (2) and Nat Thomas grabbed the goals in a 3-2 win.

The Ladies have two home matches ahead; March 14 at home to leaders Rochdale - this match will be played at Stockport Georgians FC, Cromley Road, Woodsmoor. On the 21st, Crewe will be the visitors to Woodley Sports FC for the Cheshire Ladies Cup semi-final. Kick-off 2pm for both matches, free admission.

The Reserves took the points in what turned out to be a very physical and fiery game. Springhead took the lead early on, firing in from six yards after County failed to clear a corner. Lisa Mitchell equalised for County in the 35th minute with a well-taken penalty. Despite an early scare when Paige Clarke had to clear off the line, County dominated the second half and secured the win courtesy of an expertly taken goal from Sophie Williams.

In Cheshire & Manchester WFL Division 1, HNR lost out to Great Sutton 2-1 (photo courtesy of Gary Gomersall) and Blues lost 6-1 to Oldham Athletic.

JUNIORS
The Under-16s suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Denton. A Cory Fritz goal ensured that both teams were level at half-time, despite losing keeper Elice Barnard with an injury. Denton took the lead on 50 minutes and two further goals late in the game sealed the win. Clare Lee was player of the match for County.

After an extra-time win over Fletcher Moss last week in the League Cup quarter-final, the Under-15s continued their good form, by beating local rivals Hillgate Blues, 5-1. Jodie Moir led the way with a hat-tick with Phoebe Neild and Laura Dunn grabbing a goal apiece. Charlotte Salt was player of the match.

The Under-13s comprehensively beat Oldham Athletic, 6-1 to remain a point off the top-spot. Beth Clark (2), Lydia Henshall, Katie Ward, Chloe Ankers and player of the match, Kayleigh Seddon were the scorers.

The Under-12s came up against 'bogey' side Poynton in the top-of-the-table clash, the only team to have beaten them in the league this season. Unfortunately Poynton came out 6-1 winners. Megan Watson scored County's consolation and Claudia Ross was player of the match.

The Under11s DMS lost out to Altrincham, 3-0.

Training takes place every Wednesday on the 3G pitch at Woodley Sports FC, Lambeth Grove, Woodley SK6 1QX; Under 8 - 13s, 6 - 7.30pm, Under-14 - 16, 7.30 - 9pm.
