Jim Gannon included both his former Macclesfield stars, Matty McNeil and Jim McNulty, against their old club.
The Blue & White Army also got a second chance to see new-boys Carl Baker and Peter Thompson, who both showed up well in Saturday's game against Liverpool.
The game started in brilliant sunshine with County, once again wearing their smart all-black strip, attacking the Open End.
The Hatters began the game well with McNulty and Tommy Rowe linking up well down the left.
And on 10 minutes they worked an opening that saw McNulty play a low ball into the box which needed a timely interception from Paul Morgan to clear the danger.
Five minutes later Baker opened his County account with a glancing header from Rowe's terrific in swinging free kick from the right.
A careless ball from Dominic Blizzard gave the Silkmen an opportunity to counter on 21 minutes. The ball came in from the right to Danny Thomas whose first touch let him down and the County defence were able to clear.
A couple of minutes later it was 2-0. Anthony Pilkington carried the ball 50 yards before playing it wide to Thompson. His cross from the right bounced off a Macc defender to Tommy Rowe who smashed the ball into the top of Jon Brain's net.
Five minutes before the break Rowe played a brilliant reverse pass to Baker. Morgan, though, came across to rescue his side with a well-timed sliding tackle at the expense of a corner
A couple of minutes later McNeil and then Blizzard failed to clear their lines which gave a chance to Terry Dunfield who failed to trouble Owain fon Williams from 25 yards.
The Silkmen pulled a goal back seconds before the break when the unmarked Simon Yeo turned home a right-wing cross at the near post.
County could have restored their two-goal advantage just after the break when Baker, after a clever turn and run, found Pilkington who saw his low cross-shot hit Brain and bounce behind for a corner.
Gannon made his first substitution on 55 minutes with Leon McSweeney, so impressive on Saturday, replacing Rowe. County had another chance when a poor headed clearance from Richard Walker was seized upon by Mullins. Walker then redeemed himself by turning the cross behind for a corner. From the flag-kick Blizzard headed over.
Macc hit back with a low free kick from Terry Dunfield that brought a fine save from fon Williams.
The former Crewe 'keeper was in action again soon after when he dived to his right to turn James Jennings's 25-yard drive around the post.
Gaz Owen then came to the Hatters rescue when he cleared from martin Gritton after the big striker had gone past fon Williams after latching onto a short back header from McNeil.
The equaliser came ten minutes from time when Shaun Brisley was left unmarked at the far post to prod former County midfielder Jordan Hadfield's cross goal wards. It appeared that fon Williams made the save but, to the annoyance of the Hatters defenders referee Howard Webb gave the goal.
County thought they had won it in stoppage time when Thompson scored with a fierce left-foot drive after being fed by Baker but the former Linfield striker had been adjudged to have strayed offside
