Former County favourite David Poole, on trial from Darlington, made Gary Ablett's first-half team at Nostell Miners Welfare.
With the sun shining and the pitch looking in excellent condition the home side made the early running and County had Sam Barnes to thank for a well-timed sliding tackle to clear from Francis Johnson.
County first threatened on 17 minutes when Oli Johnson latched onto Matty Mainwaring's pass to bring a great save out of Sam Dobbs.
Eight minutes later Dobbs made an even better save to turn Johnson's 20-yard drive around the post.
The Northern Counties East side came close on the half hour again when Danny Milnes curled an effort just wide.
The Hatters were denied the clearest of penalties two minutes later when Gareth North brought down Poole; to everyone's amazement Uriah Rennie waved away the appeals.
The Miners should have taken the lead just before the break when the pacy Johnson burst clear, he got too much on his shot though and lifted the ball over Paul Gerrard's cross bar.
County (first half): Gerrard; Halls, S Barnes, Havern, Rose; Vincent, Roberts, Mainwaring, Poole; Edwards, Johnson.

Ablett brought on Owain Fon Williams, Danny Pilkington, Greg Tansey, Danny Rowe, Louis Barnes, Johnny Mullins, Paul Turnbull, Peter Thompson and Michael Raynes during the break, Johnson and Sam Barnes were the players who remained from the starting eleven.
The Hatters opened the scoring within a minute when Thompson turned the ball home after Johnson's shot rebounded off a post.
Nine minutes later it was 2-0 when Johnson scored against his old club. It was Oli's last action as he was immediately withdrawn and replaced by Tom Fisher.
And Fisher made his mark just after the hour when he turned home Mullins' cross.
Pilkington forced a good save from Gavin Ansley on 70 minutes before turning provider to set up goals for Thompson and Fisher with a three minute spell.
The game ended badly for County when Fon Williams left the field with a bad head cut after colliding with a Nostell forward. The Welshman will be assessed by the club doctor to ascertain the seriousness of the injury.
Overall it was another good workout and a good pay day for the Miners. The gate of 300 was five times their average with club officials confirming that around 90% were County supporters.
