Stockport County Ladies progressed to the FA Women's Cup (sponsored by e-on) second round with an extra-team win over Bradford City last Sunday.
The visitors struck first on 22 minutes, which was the only point worthy of note in a scrappy first half with the battle being played out in midfield.
County came racing out of the blocks after the break, though, and within four minutes, captain Nicola Doig grabbed the equaliser. The game opened up into an entertaining contest with the Hatters creating most of the better chances but they couldn't find the net.
The match went into extra-time, and the introduction of Katie Sweeney and Nikki Daniels to add pace to the County forward-line started to pay off, with Bradford's back-line defending deeper and deeper allowing the County midfield to press forward and with eight minutes left on the clock, Chloe Spencer netted the all-important second goal to give County the advantage.
In the final minute, a penalty was awarded for handball and Nicola Connor calmly made sure of County's inclusion in the second round by slotting home the resulting penalty for a deserved 3-1 victory.
County were rewarded with another home tie in round two, against Wakefield Ladies, to be played on Sunday, November 29, kick-off 2pm. Admission FREE!
Both Reserves and Blues fixtures fell victim to the weather and HNR probably wish theirs did as well as they were beaten by Manchester University, 4-1, Kelly Allwood scoring a consolation goal.
Juniors
Whilst the Under-16s experienced a disappointing 4-0 defeat to Denton Girls, the Under-15s put five past Urmston Meds Pumas for the second time this season. Laura Dunn struck twice, Hazel Robinson netted her first of the season with Jodie Moir and Kirsty Cooper completing the scoring. Player of the match was Alex Mills.
The Under-13s unbeaten run continued with a 3-0 defeat of Uppermill. Kayleigh Seddon, Chloe Ankers and player of the match, Beth Clark each with a goal apiece.
Two goals from player of the match, Chloe Meaden and a strike from Hannah Bardsley secured three points for the Under-11s against Poynton.
