COUNTY SPORT RELIEF SUCCESS

Posted on: Tue 23 Mar 2010
Stockport County's hard-working Community Foundation staff put their best feet forward to raise funds for Sport Relief in Sunday (Mar 21).

Community Officer, Mike Smith, Stockport Development Officer, Dave Wardle and Tameside Development Officer, Matthew Bailey, all took part in the Stockport Mile at Woodbank Park in Offerton. After much consideration they decided to opt for the 6 miles, rather than the 1 and 3 mile; a decision they would later regret. Mike Smith retired exhausted after just 4 miles!

Dave and Matthew, though, managed to complete the full 6 miles which helped the intrepid trio raise a terrific £500 for Sport Relief.

Mike Smith said: "It was a hard slog running the 4 miles, after spending a week ill in bed! Every credit to Dave and Matthew for pushing on and finishing the full 6 miles.

"It was a great day, though, for a great cause and we'd like to thank everyone who sponsored us and also thank all the other runners for their encouragement and support."

Meanwhile, County Mascot's, Animo & Fide, didn't have a day off; they were also in action yesterday running the Glossop Mile up in the High Peak.
