A good game yesterday between Crewe Alex and County's development squad saw several players impress the watching First Team Manager Paul Simpson.
The home team took the lead in the fourth minute as a well struck free kick from the edge of the box flew into the net. County equalised from a corner routine which they had scored from in their last game, with Gianluca Havern finishing from Danny Pilkingtons in swinging kick.
The Hatters took control of the half and but for missed chances, including a James Vincent penalty which was well saved by the home keeper, they could have had the game won by half time.
The game started to go the way of the home team with the introduction of Antoni Sarcevic, a former Woodley Sports player who had been a target of the County Management before joining Crewe, and it was the midfielder who created what was to be the winning goal in the second half.
Alan Lord was pleased with the efforts of his squad, particularly Ben Say, a first year YT, who acquitted himself well at this level and also the senior pros who all gave a good account of themselves, although he did have some words of caution to add. "The boys just need to learn how to close a game out when they are on top," said Lordy, "as they played some great football but took their foot off the gas instead of putting it down."
