Stockport County Football Club are delighted to announce that two new Directors have been appointed to the Club's Board of Directors; Ken Graham and Mike Clark who have both been involved with the Club since 2001. The Board also announce the departure of Seán Connolly who has confirmed that he is leaving the Club with immediate effect.
Mr Connolly had the following to say,
On his role in the successful takeover of the Football Club:
"I came to Stockport with the objective of saving the club from extinction. This has been my second time at the Club and I have enjoyed enormously the time I have spent here, I feel I have contributed strongly in getting the Club back on its feet and helping to leave it in a position to push forward from here. The challenge for me has been in the work I have been engaged in on behalf of the club, it has been very rewarding to help one of football's most venerable clubs in a very difficult period and to give the town of Stockport a real chance of re-developing a key part of its culture and working to provide the town with something it will be proud of"
"I want to use this opportunity to thank the many good people I have worked closely with, at the Football Club, Sale Sharks, in the Borough Council and in the business community for their huge support in helping to get the work of the past months completed. A special thank you too, to the many fans who have said so many kind things to and about me in the past"
On his future:
"At this point I feel that the time is right for me to take a new direction in my career. I have other business interests that I need to resume and I also have ambitions to retain a role within football"
On the future of Stockport County:
"I wish the Board of the Club and everybody associated with the Club the very best in the months and years ahead, and whilst a lot of work has already been done it is only the beginning. It will not be easy but I have every confidence that in a few short years I shall be in the attendance at Edgeley Park when County make their push back up the Football League"
Club Chairman, Alwin Thompson added: "I am extremely grateful to Seán for all his hard work and assistance in helping to acquire the club from Administration, we hope to welcome him back to Edgeley Park on a regular basis, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish Seán well in all his future endeavours."
New Board Appointments:
Club Chairman Alwin Thompson said:
"The appointments of Ken Graham and Mike Clark are excellent news for the Club, as both come with very good commercial and football pedigrees. Ken Graham first became involved at Stockport County when his son Andy was signed by the Centre of Excellence in 2001, (Andy is currently a first year YT at the club and scored his second goal of the season last week against Macclesfield) Ken's background is within the Construction Industry and after selling his own business in 2006 has remained within the industry working for a multi-national organisation"
"Mike Clark is a local businessman who, like Ken, first became involved at the club when his son was signed by the Centre of Excellence in 2001. Mike is a Commercial Property Developer and has been heavily involved in the development of Woodley Sports Centre, with an £8m development of the site which begins in October 2010, and has also assisted Woodley Sports Football club become the success story it is today"
The two are aiming to spearhead the future of Stockport County's growth with their plans regarding Youth Development, The Centre of Excellence and the future of the Football Club with the provision of new sporting facilities within the Borough of Stockport which will help broaden the relationships of the Club within the Football community.
