Jarkko Wiss was already a Finland international when Andy Kilner paid £350,000 to bring him to Edgeley Park in the summer of 2000.

The midfielder was capped against Norway a matter of weeks after moving to England and, when he played in the Finn's 3-0 win against Macedonia in the Bahrain Tournament in January 2002, he had increased his caps as a County player to nine - one better than Martin Nash.

Actually, for almost 73 years Harry Hardy remained the only County player to win a full international cap whilst on the books here at Edgeley Park.

But, since Martin Nash doubled that total when he appeared for his native Canada in a World Cup qualifier against El Salvador in April 1997, the list has now grown to an impressive ten.

Paul Jones became our third international when he helped Wales to a 1-0 win over Scotland at Kilmarnock's Rugby Park in May 1997, a couple of months before his big money move to Southampton.

Jones, who played such a key role in our glorious 1996-97 promotion season, went on to establish himself as the Wales Number One.

Nash, despite never actually starting a League game during his spell with County, became an almost automatic choice for Canada and, by the time he left Edgeley Park, he 'out-capped' Hardy and Jones by 8 to 1.

Nash's record, though, was to last just five years.

Petri Helin played alongside Wiss against Macedonia. Signed from Luton Town on a Bosman-free in July 2001, Helin won six caps during his time at Edgeley Park.

Shefki Kuqi, though, went one better. The big striker was capped seven times by Finland before his £832,000 move to Sheffield Wednesday in March 2002.

When Kuqi hit one of the Finn's goals in their 2-0 win over Albania in September 2001 he became the first County player to score an international goal, a feat Wiss would repeat against Bahrain four months later.

An amazing feat happened on September 5th, 2001; Helin started for Finland against Greece and was later joined by Wiss and Kuqi who both came on as substitutes which meant three County players on the pitch at the same time ... in a World Cup Qualifier!

Jim Goodwin, the former Celtic defender who had yet to start a first team game for County following his move from Parkhead in the summer of 2002, replaced Leeds United striker Robbie Keane six minutes from the end of Ireland's 3-0 victory in Finland in August 2002.

Just 24 hours earlier the Waterford-born defender had starred for the irish Under-21s who beat their Finnish counterparts 1-0 thanks to a goal from his County team-mate Jon Daly.

Ireland boss Mick McCarthy was so impressed with Goodwin's performance that he made the unusual step of not only drafting him into the full squad, but giving him the opportunity to win his first cap as well.

Number eight was Nick Colgan who played for Ireland against Australia and Turkey during his loan spell with County from Hibernian in the 2003-04 season.

Danny Griffin played for Northern Ireland in their 4-1 home defeat against Norway in February 2004, a month after joining the Hatters from Dundee United.

Next up was Ashley Williams who helped Wales to a 2-0 friendly victory in Luxembourg on March 26, 2007, just 24 hours before he joined Swansea City on loan ahead of a permanent £400,000 move to the Liberty Stadium.

And most recently, Peter Thompson came on as a substitute for Northern Ireland's all-time top scorer David Healy in a friendly against Hungary on November 19, 2008.
