John Ruddy and David Poole were handed debuts as County looked to bounce back from the disappointing home defeat by Shrewsbury in midweek.
Gareth Owen recovered from his foot injury to return to the side and there was also a recall for Keith Briggs.
James Spencer, Tony Dinning, Michael Bowler and Adam Griffin were the players who made way.
Jim Gannon asked for a performance from his players and they started the game at a high tempo forcing the visitors onto the back foot.
After an early scare when Mark Jones shot wide from the edge of the box County took control.
Michael Malcolm came close with a near=post volley after Keith Briggs nodded the ball back across goal.
Then Mark Robinson's corner cused panic in the home defence but Adam Le Fondre and then Glenn Murray failed to get shots away.
Another corner, this time from Poole, picked out Robinon who's shot was blocked by Le Fondre who couldn't get out of the way of the ball.
All this was in the opening 11 minutes and, just 60 seconds later, the Hatters were inches away from taking the lead. Muray's looping header beat Jones and bounced to safety off the post.
Gareth Owen was next to see a shot blocked by the over-worked Wrexham defence.
The pressure finally paid off when Bigs threaded the ball into Le Fondre's path. The Offerton-born hit man had his legs taken away by Steve Evans and Robinson scored from the spot.
The roars had barely subsided when Le Fondre struck again to rob the 'keeper who failed to deal with a poos backpass and walked the ball into the net.
County had chances to kill the game off noteably for Glenn Murray who was denied by a fine save from Jones.
Nothing had been seen of the Red Dragons as an attacking force for more than 30 minutes when Danny Williams struck two minutes before the break.
The Hatters tore into the Red Draggons after the break and could have snatched a third goal when Poole played the ball into the box and it was only cleared after an almighty scramble.
Ten minutes in, though, it was 3-1. Briggs crossed from the right, Owen headed towards the far post and Le Fonde scored with a spectacular overhead kick.
Five minutes later, though, Wrexham hit back. And it was Danny Williams again, this time from close range.
The Welshmen then had a spell of possession without really troubling Ruddy.
The Hatters hit back and Jones made a brilliant save to deny Le Fondre.
Robinson than hit a long-ranger just over.
Five minutes from time Tes Bramble raced clear and squared the ball to Le Fondre to comfortably beat Jones for his hat trick.
And it got even better for the Offerton-hitman. Bramble flicked on a long clearance two minutes later and the 19-year-old ran on to beat Jones again for his fourth.
County's summer target hammered an angled drive past Ruddy from fully 35 yards to stun the Edgeley faithful.
