Jim Gannon named the side that beat Bradford City for the promotion-clash against Rochdale.
The County chief had to make a change on the bench, though. Leon McSweeney came in for Adam Proudlock who was unwell.
Dale included former County youngsters James Spencer and Adam Le Fondre.
County started the game in much the same vein as they finished on Saturday; pushing for an opening goal.
The first half chance fell to Gary Jones of Rochdale though, whose lame effort didn't even trouble keeper Ruddy.
The Hatters were ahead on the eleventh minute when Liam Dickinson headed home his 15th of the season from a fine Anthony Pilkington corner ball. Moments later it could have been even better when Shaleum Logan's sweet chip from 18 yards went just over the bar.
At the other end Dale went close when Gareth Owen's clearance very nearly took a wicked deflection, but thankfully for County the ball sailed over the bar.
Liam Dickinson was causing Dale all kinds of problems up front and the midfield of Jason Taylor, Dominic Blizzard and Gary Dicker looked solid.
Gareth Owen very nearly made it two nil when he got on the end of a Gary Dicker cross, but his header was too weak to cause Spencer any problems.
At the other end former County man, Adam Le Fondre turned and shot from the inside of the area but his effort went well over, much to the delight of the magnificent Cheadle End.
County had Michael Rose to thank for blocking a dangerous Ben Muirhead effort, as Dale tried to find a way through, but at the break it was County who had the most to smile about.
Second Half
It was end to end stuff as both sides tried to find the next goal of the game. The best chance fell to the feet of Rene Howe who launched a powerful shot from the edge of the area that took a great save from John Ruddy to deny the big striker.
It was The Hatters though that had the next goal when Liam Dickinson was fed a delightful ball by Anthony Pilkington. The big striker used his pace to beat Spencer and from a tight angle to put County in command.
Tommy Rowe's exciting burst into the area nearly resulted in a third, but his inexperience perhaps showed as he didn't make the most of a golden opportunity..
James Spencer's flapping arms nearly gifted County a third minutes later, when he missed Rowe's headed effort from a Logan free-kick. However, the ball trickled wide before County could make the most of the loose ball.
Rowe came close with a wonderful curling ball from 20 yards out that would have been a case for goal of the season had it gone in. Unfortunately for The Hatters it floated just wide.
Rochdale were not troubling County, as the County defence stood firm and Ruddy was as commanding as ever. The midfield were also playing their part, frustrating the Dale by breaking down their play effectively.
David Poole who was a late substitute for County had a good chance when Rowe found him inside the area, but his turn and flick was too weak.
County seem to be hitting form at a crucial point of the season, not only are they getting results but they are playing with a confidence that sometimes makes them look unbeatable.
