Second-half goals from Matty McNeil and Oli Johnson within four minutes of each other salvaged a point for County after Millwall led 2-0.
McNeil struck after 75 minutes when he reacted quickly after his header from Tommy Rowe's corner was blocked.
And Johnson set the Cheadle End alight when his 18-yard shot looped over David Forde in the Lions goal.
Jim Gannon made three changes for the visit of promotion-chasing Millwall.
Chris O'Grady was given his full home debut and there were recalls for James Tunnicliffe and Gary Dicker.
Tunnicliffe came in fro the injured Michael Raynes whilst Dicker replaced Paul Turnbull.
Matty McNeil was the man to make way for O'Grady.
A scrappy goal from Izale McLeod after 17 minutes gave Millwall a half-time lead.
The former MK Dons striker burst into the box and although his first two efforts lacked conviction the County defence failed to clear and he was able to turn the ball past Owain Fon Williams.
County had a fair amount of possession but lacked the guile to break down a well-marshalled Lions' defence who boasted the best defensive record in League 1 behind leaders Leicester City.
The nearest the Hatters came to finding an equaliser came just before the half-time whistle when Rose burst forward and hit a powerful 25-yard drive just wide.
Millwall doubled their advantage seven minutes after the break when Fon Williams brought down McLeod. The referee initially awarded a free kick but changed his decision to a penalty after consulting his linesman.
McLeod sent Fon Williams the wrong way from the spot.
Rose almost threw County a lifeline on 64 minutes with a curling 25-yard free kick that Forde did well to tip over.
A minute later the game exploded when David Martin was shown a second yellow cad for a reckless challenge on Rowe.
County then took control of the game and, after their two goal blast, could have won it.
Gary Dicker was inches away from connecting with Leon McSweeney's left-wing cross.
And McSweeney pulled a shot wide when through on goal after being brilliantly set up by Johnson.
The visitors' might have snatched all three points right at the death, though. Fon Williams made a fine save to deny McLeod a hat-trick and then made an equally good save to deny Scott Barron's rebound.
