Richie Partridge (thigh) and David Poole (hamstring) both failed fitness tests ahead of County's final game of a hugely disappointing season. Danny Pilkington who replaced Partridge at Southend started. Adam Griffin came in for Poole.

Lloyd Rigby, who made his League debut at Roots Hall, kept his place in goal.

George Donnelly was missing from the squad after returning to Plymouth at the end of his loan spell.

County head the first chance when Andy Halls hit a brilliant cross fro the right, Adam Griffin headed wide.

The Hatters then needed Danny Swailes to bravely charge down Gareth Edds shot from the edge of the box.

Edds should have scored on 13 minutes when he wriggled past a couple of half-hearted challenges in the box but then shot well wide with only Rigby to beat.

Rovers took the lead seven minutes before the break when Baz Savage knocked a long throw back to Ian Goodison who smashed the ball past Rigby.

And the visitors almost doubled their lead two minutes later when Joss Labadie's snap shot almost caught Rigby napping, fortunately the ball bounced to safety off the foot of the post.

Right on half time Jabo Ibehre tested Gulacsi with a low drive after turning past Marlon Broomes, the keeper managing to gather the ball at the second attempt.

The Hatters started the second half really brightly without really threatening Gulacsi but, from their first real foray into County territory after the break Rovers doubled their advantage on 53 minutes.

Zoumana Bakayogo crossed from the right to Ian Thomas Moore who flicked the ball past Rigby.

Pilkington came close five minutes later when he cut in from the right but then shot at Gulacsi from the edge of the box.

James Vincent had a chance on the hour when he turned on mat Sadler's pass but then pulled his left-foot shot wide.

Pilkington caused the visitors problems again when he twisted and turned past three defenders and then watched as his cross flew across goal with none one on hand to apply the finishing touch.

County threatened again on 73 Jemal Johnson, who had replaced Griffin, was just of target with a 20 yard free kick.

The visitors confirmed their League 1 status with a third goal 14 minutes from time. Rigby spilled a shot from all Savage allowing Labadie an easy tap in from the rebound.

Deep into added time County should have grabbed a consolation. Pilkington's corner found Sadler who missed a header in front of goal, the ball broke to Swailes who hit a low shot straight at Gulacsi.
