Starting XI: Fon Williams, Lynch, Turnbull, Swailes, Assoumani, Tansey, Conlon, Donnelly, Griffin, Poole, Proctor. Subs: Vincent, Partridge, Mainwaring, Pilkington, Rowe, Fisher, Ormson.
Two changes for County for the start of their first ever League meeting with Stevenage, Jamie Proctor makes his full debut in place of Danny Rowe with Adam Griffin replacing the injured Robbie Williams. County have the first chance of the game as Mani heads over the bar in the 3rd minute.
Michael Bostwick shows his intentions six minutes later with a 25 yard effort that fon Williams holds on to at the second attempt, and two minutes later the Welshman was back in action as he dives bravely at Charlie Griffin's feet to stop the big forward from opening the scoring.
With both teams looking to break forward at every opportunity, the home side were making more of their possession and looking more dangerous with every attack, and Griffin made sure that he beat fon Williams with a brilliant header from the edge of the box to break the deadlock on the half hour.
The home team start to push forward with more purpose and Mani is forced to block another goal bound effort with Danny Swailes heading the resulting corner over his own bar to clear again, the pressure was soon to tell again as Bostwick this time makes sure with a tremendous 25 yard effort that flies into the top corner to double the home teams advantage before the break.
HT 2 - 0
No changes for the second half, as County set out to get an early reply and get themselves back in the game, however it is the home side that almost score again as David Poole heads off the line from another corner kick to the home side, and three minutes later Poole is in action at the other end as he gets on the end of a George Donnelly cross but his effort is deflected for a corner.
Tom Fisher replaces Jamie Proctor in the 58th minute is in action immediately as he forces a corner from which to Barry Conlon who crosses to Swailes at the back post, unfortunately the Captains shot is straight at the home keeper.
The period of County pressure continues as Mansour Assoumani heads against the post from another good corner from Adam Griffin and again a minute later 'Mani' heads just wide from another good delivery from Griffin.
Unfortunately it was the home teams Griffin that clinched the points for Stevenage, as he ghosts in at the back post in the 70th minute to tap home a cross from Ronnie Henry for his second of the game.
Danny Pilkington replaces Conlon for the restart as the Hatters try to salvage at least a point. The home team create a couple of further chances to improve their tally with fon Williams making a good save from substitute Njazi Kuqi, brother of former county striker Shefki.
George Donnelly finally gets County on the score sheet in added time as he heads firmly home from a good run and cross by Mark Lynch to give the travelling support something to cheer about, with the final whistle blowing seconds later.
