Starting XI: fon Williams, Lynch, Swailes, Assoumani, Griffin, Turnbull, Tansey, Donnelly, Mainwaring, Pilkington, Proctor.
Subs: Conlon, Halls, Poole, Ormson, Vincent, Fisher, Rowe.
Manager Paul Simpson sprang a surprise by leaving out Barry Conlon and starting with loan signing Jamie Proctor, who alongside top Scorer George Donnelly and recalled Danny Pilkington, made up a front three. In midfield Matty Mainwaring started his first game for over a year after suffering with two bad injuries.
As at Stevenage last week, the Hatters started brightly and had an early chance with a Greg Tansey free kick that just cleared the bar in the 4th minute; he was to go even closer in the 15th minute with another free kick that clipped the top of the bar.
Proctor had a 20 yard effort which cleared the bar before George Donnelly found himself in the referee's notebook after catching the visiting keeper as he chased a long ball up field, with play being held up for a few minutes as the keeper received treatment to a head wound.
The visitors came close to opening their account as first Mansour Assoumani deflected a shot wide and from the resulting corner kick Mainwaring cleared a header off the line, Jake Robinson joined Donnelly in the book a couple of minutes later for kicking the ball away after a free kick was awarded against the Shrews.
With five minutes to go to the break Robinson was smiling again as he gave the visitors the lead after springing the offside trap to shoot across fon Williams for his fifth goal of the season.
HT 0 - 1
With no changes at half time the Hatters attacked the Cheadle End hoping to get back into the game, although within ten minutes Simpson made two changes with Conlon replacing Pilkington and James Vincent replacing Mainwaring, unfortunately within a minute, following a defensive mix up, Matt Harrold raced clear to beat fon Williams to make it two for Shrewsbury Town in front of their travelling support.
The game was as good as over just after the hour as Mark Wright appeared at the far post to slot home a cross shot from Robinson. Danny Rowe replaced proctor in the 66th minute and almost plays in Donnelly with his first touch, Donnelly also has a couple of efforts go just wide, Conlon then has a good effort from 20 yards saved at the near post by Neal in the visitors goal as County try to put some respectability on the score line.
Wright wraps up the scoring as he grabs his second of the day, racing clear from a couple of challenges on the halfway line, he slots past the advancing fon Williams to rapturous applause from the hoards behind the railway end goal.
