Manager Paul Simpson made three changes from last week bringing back Barry Conlon and James Vincent for Jamie Proctor and Danny Pilkington with new signing Matt Glennon replacing Owain fon Williams between the sticks.

Wearing the new yellow away kit for the first time, County kicked off playing towards the packed terrace of travelling Hatters who were almost celebrating in the first minute as Vincent shot just wide, with Conlon forcing the first save of the game moments later as his left foot shot appeared to be heading for the corner.

Debutant Glennon was forced into action for the first time as he beat former Hatter Matt Hamshaw to a long cross field ball at the far post, and was well placed a few minutes later as Colin Daniel shot wide under pressure from Mansour Assoumani.

The first booking of the game went the way of the home team as Ross Draper was cautioned for a crude late challenge on Paul Turnbull, and Glennon was called into action again as he dealt with another long ball into the box.

Just after the half hour, play was held up as Assoumani received treatment to a head injury which saw him leave the field to continue treatment and also change shirt due to his original shirt being blood stained, Greg Tansey then provided Conlon with a great opportunity with a precise free kick, which the big Irishman headed just wide, Tansey himself then had a 25 yard effort flash just wide.

As an eventful half drew to a close, Matty Mainwaring found himself in the referee's notebook after a poor challenge on Draper and in time added on George Donnelly, surrounded by defenders near the corner flag, turned them inside out before creating space in the box to fire across Jose Veiga in the home goal to send the County fans behind the goal delirious, there was barely time for the game to restart before the half time whistle blew.

No changes for the second half as the home team throw everything at County and within a couple of minutes Danny Swailes has to be quick to clear his lines from a corner kick to prevent an early equaliser, although within five minutes of the restart the home side were given the best chance of an equaliser as they were awarded a penalty after Daniel appeared to run straight into Assoumani.

If fairytales do come true then The Moss Rose was the place to be as Matt Glennon, a Stockport County fan making his first appearance for his boyhood team, made a great save from Emile Sinclair's penalty kick, diving to his left he palmed the ball to safety with many of his friends and family cheering wildly on the terrace behind him.

Two minutes later Sinclair had the chance to atone for his error after beating the offside trap he found himself one on one with Glennon, but probably with his spot kick miss in mind, he blazed his effort hopelessly wide.

Just on the hour mark, from another good delivery from Griffin, Assoumani's eventful day took another turn, as first he brought the ball under control and then turning smartly in the right penalty area, he smashed an unstoppable shot past Veiga to double the Hatters lead, and at the same time notch his first goal for the club.

Tyrone Barnett had a chance for the home team but shot well wide from a good position as the home team at last started to put pressure on their visitors, although on the counter attack first Tansey and then Vincent had chances to make the game completely safe.

The final fifteen minutes of the game saw both sides make substitutions, the most notable one for the travelling Hatters fans being the introduction of Jake Simpson, son of Manager Paul, who made his debut for the club coming on to bolster midfield as County showed their determination to clinch their first win since February, although it did take a goal line clearance from Mainwaring in stoppage time to ensure that Glennon kept the clean sheet he so richly deserved.
