BRIGHTON PREVIEW
Posted on: Fri 01 May 2009
County head to Brighton tomorrow for the last game of the season knowing that, barring a couple of freak results, League One survival is assured.
It's our first trip to Sussex since the 1-0 victory at the Withdean Stadium in October '03, when Aaron Wilbraham tapped the ball home from an Andy Welsh cross to take all three points back to Cheshire.
Earlier this season, the Seagulls visited Edgeley Park and a goal from Dominic Blizzard and a converted penalty from Craig Davies again gave County the points.
Three players who plied their trade for County at that time are currently on the books of Brighton themselves. Gary Dicker moved to the South Coast on loan from County in March, and hasn't been out of the side since; striker Craig Davies, who signed from Oldham, from whom he was on loan at County; and Jim McNulty, who earned rave reviews for the Seagulls before an unfortunate lower-back injury he picked up against Crewe eventually meant an operation to remove a kidney.
Brighton have been very busy since January in bringing in players to cover their injury ravaged squad; no less than 11 new players have joined the Albion since the end of January either on loan or permanently. Currently Dicker (County), strikers Calvin Andrew (Palace) and Lloyd Owusu (Cheltenham), midfielder Al Bangura (Watford) and left-back Gary Borrowdale (QPR) are on loan at the Withdean.
Team News
County are hopeful of a return to action for midfielder Dominic Blizzard and Michael Raynes. Matt McNeil and James Tunnicliffe are doubtful to play. Owain Fon Williams, Carl Baker and Johnny Mullins will all be setting their sights on the start of next season for their returns.
