Mat began his career with local side Birmingham City, making his Premiership debut in November 2002.
After several years trying to hold down a first team place at St Andrews, he moved to Watford in 2008 for an initial fee of £750,000.
After a strong start to his career at Vicarage Road, he again found himself out of the side and, having not played since December 2008, he joined County on loan in January 2010 to replace the outgoing Michael Rose.
