Greg is another promising youngster who has made his way through our successful Centre of Excellence.
The Huyton-born midfielder made his professional debut in our JPT Trophy victory at Macclesfield in October 2006 and he also figured in the final three games of the campaign.
He scored two brilliant goals to help County's Under-18 side lift the prestigious Football League Youth Alliance League Cup. His performance in the final alerted Liverpool and he joined their squad, along with his County teammate Ryan Crowther, on trial for the Reds summer tour to Italy. Whilst Crowther moved to Anfield in a substantial six-figure deal Tansey decided to stay with County and fight for a first-team place.
A number of injuries in the first half of the 2007/08 season saw Greg, who had more usually been a member of the U21 squad, given a number of first-team games and he settled in well. The return of more senior players, though, meant opportunities came less & less and towards the end of the season he went to Altrincham on loan, helping them out of the relegation places & surviving in the Conference.
