James joined his boyhood heroes, Liverpool, aged 8, and has worked his way through the system at Anfield to earn a professional contract.
His first team debut came on 25 October 2006 in a 4-3 League Cup win at home to Reading and, later that season he went out on loan to Scottish First Division club Ross County. He played nine times for the Dingwall based side, but could not help them avoid relegation.
James is regarded by Liverpool as a versatile, tough-tackling defender who can, when necessary, switch to central defence.
He came to County on the eve of the season's opening game on a one-month loan which has since been extended by 93 days.
