The Glossop-born midfielder joined County's Centre of Excellence at Under-9 level, and made his debut in County's 1-0 victory over Brentford on the last day of the 2007/08 season.
Since being given a YTS contract, he made more than 60 appearances for the Under-18s, scoring often. He is noted for his fitness, having been described as the fittest player at the club.
His first County goal came in the very last minute of a 5-0 victory over Yeovil Town in the FA Cup in November, 2008. His first league goal was a fine volley v. Hartlepool at Edgeley Park in the following March, and Vinny scored again in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Crewe at the end of the 08/09 season.
