As part of a British Council 'Connecting Classrooms' project the award winning Stockport County Study Centre welcomed teachers from schools in Ghana and Zambia to take a look at how creative technology can be used to raise standards in numeracy and literacy. The aim of the week-long trip is to explore opportunities to promote World Class education and Global Learning, whilst at the same time promoting teaching and learning across the curriculum.

Paul Cunningham, headteacher of Outwood Primary:
"I would really like to thank the SCFC Managing Director, Mark Maguire for his hospitality today our African delegation had a super time at Stockport County and were really made to feel at home!

"I would also like to thank Gary Richards who has offered specialist help and support specifically in relation to our British Council funded Sub Saharan project, which has seen Outwood link up with two other schools Lane End and St Simon's. From the beginning of the project, Gary has given advice on how to sustain electronic communication links between the Stockport schools and the schools in Africa. Further to this the facilities and resources of the centre have been used to help foster and direct the project.

"Today our school is hosting a visit from the Zambian and Ghana teachers and the study centre has offered us access to its superb facilities and services during the week. As well as offering a guided visit of the centre, which has allowed our African teachers to see at first hand the superb resources used by our children, they have also organised, on our behalf, complimentary tickets for a Stockport County match.

"All these activities have enriched our visitors programme and will add considerably to what is a memorable week for a group of teachers, many of whom have never left their own country before and certainly have not previously had the opportunity to use ICT resources anywhere near as good as those available in the Stockport County Study Centre."

Whilst in Stockport the group have visited the Study Centre at Edgeley Park to see the many ways in which the children from the `Stockport schools use the centre to develop their ICT skills and experience.

It is hoped that our visitors will be able to see at first hand the similarities and differences of the school systems as well as the opportunity to participate in some sight seeing and even a visit to the local football ground.
