Widening Participation ProjectLast week saw the study centre working in collaboration with Stockport Aimhigher and the Manchester Metropolitan University Business School, as part of a widening participation project aimed at raising the aspirations of Yr 10 students.
Maria Benson, from the MMU Business School 'We have had four schools attend throughout the week, Bramhall High, Stockport Academy, Werneth School and St James's. The four schools have all been very different and Gary and his team have really worked hard with the tasks they have set the students. Each group had to re-brand and create an advert for an iphone and an X-box 360. They also had to create a podcast and a flyer to accompany their advert. The students then showcased the work they had produced at an Open Day bsck at the MMU Business School last Friday.
The facilities and staff expertise available at the study centre are excellent and I think all of the schools really benefited from going there, and produced some excellent work. I hope that we will be able to work together on this project again next year.
Young Entrepreneurs EventThis Friday will also see the Study Centre hosting the finale to the Stockport Secondary Schools Young Entrepreneurs of the Year 2009. An 'Apprentice' style visioning evening will see members from each school present their business vision and battle it out to become Stockport Secondary Schools Young Entrepreneurs 2009.
