Liverpool-born Ryan was a revelation last season, ending the campaign as a defensive midfielder due to injuries in the squad, but helping the Hatters to complete the season with a four-game unbeaten run. A centre-half by trade, Ryan has mainly been deployed at right-back.
He was handed a new contract in the summer, underlining his importance to the squad. His older brother Kevin was a fans' favourite as a striker at Edgeley Park, and Ryan also started out as a front man, but feels his best position is in the heart of defence. He originally came to Edgeley Park in the summer of 2015 having rejected the offer of a new deal at Oldham Athletic.
