Jim Gannon speaks to The County Live Podcast

Stockport County manager Jim Gannon speaks to 104.9 Imagine FM presenter Chris Ridgway about the win on the home to Corby Town in the FA Cup, the challenge ahead in the league against Hereford and the shape of his squad, which includes a positive on Paul Turnbull.

Jim Gannon on CORBY TOWN

“It was no mean feat. We can see why Corby are unbeaten and have won their last three rounds in the FA Cup, in many regards it [the tie] was a tricky one, but we’ve played extremely well and were deserved winners in the end.”

The fact that Corby were not just able to contain Stockport County in the first 45 minutes, but do it without looking too rattled showed their resilience. Half time was the turning point, however, and Frank Mulhern proved to be too much for the visitors.

Jim Gannon on FRANK MULHERN
”frank gave us extra impetus in the second half, i felt the first half they were solid and maintained us, even sporadically stretched us, but i always felt that with the introduction of the likes of matty warbuton, frank mulhern and sam minihan from the bench would give us that extra quality and energy to get through.”

It had been a few games the Stockport County faithful had seen explosive striker Frank Mulhern with a knee bandage on, so seeing a fully fit Frank up front was warmly greeted by the Edgeley Park faithful. It didn’t take long for Frank to show what he could do, linking up with Matty Warbuton and Darren Stephenson to completely dominate the second half and see County safely through.

Jim Gannon on his squad
Having seen skipper paul turnbull ruled out indefinitely with an injury sustained away to kidderminster, jim gannon provides insight into how his inspirational captain is looking on the training ground and how the team adapt to the presence of ‘bully’.

“It’s been nice to see Paul Turnbull jogging around and doing some work…hopefully we’ll see him back training with us by the end of the month.”.

Jim Gannon on Hereford
“The new manager has come in, changed the system on saturday, they’ve worked hard and recruited…they’ve worked to find the right formula for their players…i think form will go out the window this weekend”

Following the conversation with Jim Gannon, hosts Chris Ridgway and Martin Johnston of 104.9 Imagine FM pick over another week in the lives of Stockport County fans.

They discuss Matty Warburton at this crucial period in the season.

Chris and Martin also picked their ‘one to watch’ for the Hereford game. As usual they also decided who was ‘da man’ in Stockport County’s win against Corby Town.

Don’t forget that as always, Chris Ridgway joins Jon Keighren this Saturday on 104.9 Imagine FM and around the world on County Player for full match commentary and all the coverage of Stockport County in the Vanarama National League North.
