2022/23 End Of Season Award winners revealed

In a special event at Carrington this afternoon, the first-team squad were presented with the End of Season awards for 2022/23…

It’s been an incredible first year back in the league for the football club, with promotion still the aim as we prepare for the second leg of our play-off semi-final against Salford City on Saturday.

Everyone deserves recognition for their contribution to the cause this year – but see below who ended up picking those prestigious End of Season Awards:

Stockport County Goal of the Season 2022/23Antoni Sarcevic v Mansfield Town

There have been some special goals scored throughout this season, with County finishing the year as the fourth top scorers in League Two, but in the end there was a clear winner for this year’s Goal of the Season.

Antoni Sarcevic’s 25-yard blockbuster took home the award, the goal coming all the way back in August as he found the top corner in spectacular style, to give County a 1-0 lead at the time. Sadly, we went on to lose the game 2-1, but that didn’t take away from the quality of the strike from our mercurial midfielder.

George Haigh Young Player of the Year Award – Ryan Rydel

For the second season running, Ryan Rydel has been voted by supporters as the George Haigh Young Player of the Year following an outstanding first full season in the EFL.

The 22-year-old has made 32 appearances across all competitions at wing-back, scoring three and assisting 11 in that time – reaffirming his status as the assist king at Edgeley Park. It was a landslide victory for the youngster in the end, picking up over 80% of the vote to be crowned winner.

Grahame White Players’ Player of the Year – Kyle Wootton

Being recognised by your teammates is always a special moment, and there was a clear winner of this season’s Grahame White Players’ Player of the Year award. 25 votes were casted in total, with 19 of them going towards the big man – Kyle Wootton.

The 26-year-old has been a crucial part of our promotion push this season, with his teammates always quick to pay tribute to his contribution as the focal point of the team. It’s been an impressive first season at Edgeley Park for the former Notts County forward, presented the award by captain Paddy Madden, and the accolades weren’t finished there…

Mens’ Player of the Year – Kyle Wootton

Kyle Wootton made it a double, as the forward also picked up the most prestigious trophy of all – the Supporters’ Player of the Year award for 2022/23.

It caps a brilliant debut season from the big man, who saw off competition from Will Collar and Ben Hinchliffe to win the vote. The 26-year-old has made 49 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and assisting a further seven to propel us into the play-off places.

It’s the second successive season a player has picked up both the Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player of the Year awards, with Paddy Madden having collected both last season.
