Adam signs new deal at Edgeley Park

Adam Thomas has signed an extended contract at Stockport County which will keep him at Edgeley Park until the summer of 2019.

Wide man Adam, 24, joined the Hatters from Hednesford Town in May 2016 after scooping five Player of the Year awards at Keys Park.

Prenton-based Adam, who’s scored three goals this season alongside a string of assists, has a Premier League background, having played alongside the likes of Ross Barkley as a youngster at Everton before spending a further three years on the books at Stoke City.

Manager Jim Gannon said: “I’m really pleased to see Adam has now developed into a regular in County colours. He had a very difficult season last year with a serious injury but we are starting to see the player we signed emerge and Adam has now become one of our most consistent performers. As a wide right midfielder he offers a penetrative threat, great crossing from both open play and set plays, along with a good goal scoring record from the wing. In recent weeks he has shown his versatility playing from deeper which has highlighted his great team ethic.

“It was an easy decision to extend Adam’s contract as he has all the attributes we look for in the players we want to work with going forward over the coming years. He is very professional, and this has shown in that he has been the most regular daytime trainer at the club, having not missed a single morning. He has both the appetite and opportunity to train more regular in the coming years, as he still has the drive to be a full-time professional at a higher level in the future. We hope that will be with us.

“Adam now joins Darren Stephenson, Jimmy Ball, Sam Minihan and Dan Cowan, along with young attackers Adam Etches and Szymon Czubik, in having committed to the growing professional training and playing structures at the club that includes morning training sessions.”
