We are delighted to announce that 17-year-old midfielder Ashton Mee has signed his first pro-contract with the club.
Ashton, a regular in the club’s B-team fixtures last season at the age of just 16, made his first-team debut for County in April – coming off the bench in our 3-0 win away at League Two champions, Leyton Orient.
Making the step-up from the academy, the midfielder has been a regular presence in first-team training at Carrington in recent months, and travelled with the squad on their pre-season trip to Pinatar. He has appeared in four of our six pre-season outings this Summer, and has caught the eye with his mature performances in the middle of the park.
He has now signed a three-year deal at Edgeley Park, and we are excited to see him develop further during his time with the club.
Academy Manager, Damien Allen said:
“I’m really pleased for Ashton; he deserves the opportunity and challenge that lies ahead. Initially he was brought into the club by Mike Jeffries (Head of Coaching), at U16s level. He has been committed, respectful, humble, and eager to improve since the day he signed his scholarship contract.
“Ashton is the perfect role model for future Academy players hoping to gain a professional contract at County. He has earnt this, but I know if you asked him he would mention the support the Professional Development Phase (PDP) staff have provided him over this last 18 months.
“From Colin Gregory (Kit man) who has driven him to and from training/fixtures, Jamie Crowther (Lead U19 Coach), Jack Hodnett (Lead Analyst), and Megan Lord (Head of Performance), who have developed his physical attributes to get him closer to being ready for men’s football.
“Along with other Academy graduates such as Cody Johnson who is currently out on loan this season to Rochdale’s first team, these are positive early signs that our developmental approach in the Academy is going in the right direction.”
